-vacant o vacuous?-

-vacant o vacuous?-
Nota d'uso
Vacant significa “vuoto, vacuo” soprattutto nel senso di “vacante, non occupato”: a vacant seat, un posto libero, vacant rooms, camere libere; in senso figurato significa soprattutto “assente”: a vacant look, uno sguardo assente. Anche vacuous significa “vuoto, vacuo”, ma quasi esclusivamente nel senso di “sciocco, stupido”: He muttered the usual vacuous remarks about the team losing again, mormorò le solite vane osservazioni sulla squadra che continuava a perdere.
